What is a Community Group (CG)?
A Community Group is a group of 10-20 followers of Christ who live in a specific geography and who have covenanted together to display God’s glory and incarnate and declare God’s grace to that geography. They are committed to glorifying God, building their lives on His Truth, Loving God and others and discovering and engaging in God’s Mission.
Why do we have Communities Groups?
Community Groups exist to glorify God by connecting people into loving relationships that are centered on the Gospel through:
- Growing in their relationship with God through their understanding of The Word.
- Caring for one another.
- Participating in God’s redemptive mission in the place where they live.
These emphases are consistent with what we see taking place in the life of the early church as recorded in the book of Acts:
“And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers...and all who believed were together and had all things in common...and day by day attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and joyful hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.” Acts 2:42-47
How do Community Groups accomplish their purpose?
In order for CG’s to be strategically fulfilling their purpose, each one will strive to be:
- Growing in Truth
CG’s intentionally spend time in God’s Word. The primary emphasis will be on personal and group application.
- Walking in Love
CG’s seek to live out the “one another” passages of Scripture. This is also a low threshold environment into which to invite new people.
- Participating in Mission
CG’s strategically engage the place they live in the name of Jesus.
