“And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” - Acts 2:42
The primary and most important tasks of the church are to empower people to grow in their relationship with God, and to represent Him well in the world around us.
Scripture provides us with a blueprint for what the life of a faithful disciple of Jesus looks like. A follower of Jesus is meant to be seeking consistent spiritual maturity in their lives, leading to growth in five distinct discipleship outcomes:
- Intimacy with God
- Fruit of the Spirit
- Grace Story
- Spiritual Giftedness
- Stewardship of Life.
Toward that end, Clay Community Church has developed several types of small group discipleship opportunities. These groups are designed to help Christ’s people be equipped in their faith, to grow in community with others on mission, and to develop trusted relationships for accountability and spiritual formation.
The sections below outline our current small group offerings. Please take a look and prayerfully consider where you might best be able to get connected.
Sunday School - 8:30 am to 9:30 am
Our Sunday School class meets weekly and walks through a book of the Bible together utilizing a daily discipleship guide called Explore the Bible. This curriculum emphasizes personal pursuit of God through His Word throughout the week, and Sunday gatherings focus on group discussion regarding a specific passage in line with the reading. There is no preparation needed beforehand, and you are welcome to join this group at any time.
This group meets throughout the year on Sunday mornings.
Sunday Seminars - 8:30 am to 9:30 am
Sunday Seminars are designed to grow each individual in specific topical areas related to their faith in Christ. Each seminar lasts between 6 and 13 weeks, and operates in a relaxed classroom-lecture format. In order to maximize impact, our hope is that participants will attend each of the weekly sessions their seminar topic.
Sunday Seminars will be launching a pilot on October 7th, 2018 and running for 6 weeks.
A Community Group is a group of 10-20 followers of Christ who live in a specific geography and who have covenanted together to display God’s glory and incarnate and declare God’s grace to that geography. They are committed to glorifying God, building their lives on His Truth, Loving God and others, and discovering and engaging in God’s Mission.
Community Groups exist to glorify God by connecting people into loving relationships that are centered on the Gospel through:
- Growing in their relationship with God through their understanding of The Word.
- Caring for one another.
- Participating in God’s redemptive mission in the place where they live.
We have two Community Groups gathering regularly:
- Monday Evenings, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm in Kimbrook.
- Wednesday Evenings, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm in Baldwinsville.
Formation Groups are intended to provide a more intimate context where discipleship can occur. This is a group of 3-4 individuals of the same gender who are committed to personal accountability and intentional growth together. Our goal is to make disciples who would go on to themselves make disciples.
Formation Group participants work their way through a guided process for spiritual development, which includes the following components:
- Reading specific books for theological sharpening.
- Memorizing selected portions of Scripture.
- Interaction with a Discipleship Roadmap which its built on our five discipleship outcomes.
These Formation Groups meet twice per month and typically last for 9-12 months. At the end of this period, our hope is that participants would form new Formation Groups, and guide other individuals through the same process they’ve experienced.
